A Quiet Morning after a bad week...

I got up early this morning to "enjoy the silence" before all the girls got up - it's been a hectic week.  First, today is our anniversary - 12 years.  My wife had spent a lot of time planning a sweet trip to SF for a four-day weekend, and I had the time off to do it.  Maggie's mother had made arrangements to take the girls on a little cruise off the coast of California and Mexico, and so this week was to have been a nice time for us to get "reacquainted."

Then, the bad news.  Several weeks ago, Maggie's grandmother (Meme) in Colorado Springs was involved in a significant auto accident.  She came out of it with several broken bones, and was pretty banged up.  Nevertheless, the doctors allowed her to go home provided she had someone there to help take care of her.  Maggie's mother (Grandma) moved over to Meme's house to help. At this same time, it was Fair Week here in Rock Springs.  Sophie has been involved in 4-H all Spring, and this was her time to show and sell the lamb she's been raising.  Because of the accident, Grandma couldn't come to see Sophie's triumphant 4-H victory, so Maggie's dad (Papa) came by himself with Grandma flying in on Saturday morning to see the auction.

Sunday rolls around, Grandma is getting ready to take the girls to Salt Lake City to catch their flight out to California to get on the boat, and Papa is heading home.  Maggie's brother had purchased our white kitchen appliances from us when we upgraded, and Papa was taking the refrigerator home with him in his pickup.  We get a call several hours after he's left that he has been in an accident of his own between Laramie and Cheyenne.  The truck is totaled, the refrigerator is spread out along 150 years and three lanes of traffic, and Papa is shook up but OK.  We make arrangements with my sister Emily and brother-in-law Zach to get him to Cheyenne so Maggie's brother can pick him up there.  Maggie decides that she needs to fly to CS to take care of her Dad and Meme, and so we make arrangements to meet in SLC on Wednesday night to fly to SF for our anniversary trip.

Come Tuesday, things are not going well in CS.  Maggie's Dad is OK, but Meme is taken to the hospital.  Maggie and I make the decision late on Tuesday night that going on our trip isn't the best idea.  I contact Travelocity and cancel the trip.  This works out OK, because at work we have several employees who need the end of the week off for funeral leave -my family is not the only one facing difficulties.

By Friday, Maggie and her Dad have been able to get in contact with her Mom on the cruise ship, and have made arrangements to get her back a few days earlier than originally planned.  Robbie and the girls fly into SLC Friday evening, and drive back to Rock Springs that night.  We take her out to the RS airport on Saturday morning and get her on the flight back to Denver so she an get to her mother.  Maggie is now coming home tonight.  Our much-needed week together has been reduced down to four hours together on our anniversary, but I really think we made the right decision by Maggie flying to CS to help take of her family.  She is worn-out and numb from spending a week solid at a hospital, and I'm holding the fort down with the girls here in Rock Springs. Meme is hanging in there, but it's a little touch-and-go right now and she's not all that stable.  It may be another difficult week, but at least Maggie is back home with me!
