Politics

Let me start this out first by saying that I love the back and forth of debate - I enjoy seeing where candidates stand on different issues and what they would like to do if elected.

However, I'm tired of the bickering. I wish for once that these two candidates could be honest instead of just spewing out the prepared positions and lines their campaign managers prepare for them. If you didn't know better, you'd think that they disagree on virtually everything. I don't believe that - I do believe that both Sens. McCain and Obama will say and do anything to get elected. Sen. Obama is a pure politician who has shown in the past that he is willing to take off the gloves and run a vicious campaign to win office. McCain seems to be hamstrung by his ambition to become president. I don't disagree that either are qualified.

I do question how much one man (or woman) can effectively push things through the way these two seem to expect to. Aren't we still a counry of checks and balances? Do we not rely on Congress to pass laws, our President to execute those laws, and our courts to interpret those laws? How much can one man do?

Part of the problem, I believe, with our current Administration is what I originally believed was a strength: President Bush surrounded himself with intelligent people who were intensely loyal. I believe what's happened is that our President is not always making the decisions, although he is taking responsibility for them. Our government is being presided over by committee, only one of whom was elected by the American public.

I know this all seems naiive, but I want to see a government that we can all be proud of, not just the party of the winning candidate. Put the partisan fighting aside, put the differences aside, and solve the problem.
